Inyanga Marine Energy Group promotes tidal energy to the French Parliament

On April 9th 2025, Inyanga Marine Energy Group attended an event at the National Assembly in Paris. (The National Assembly is the lower house of the French Parliament.) The purpose of the event was to promote tidal energy in the French Energy Policy, which will be released later in April.

MP Anna Pic, who organised the event, prepared a declaration which was agreed by all participants, including Inyanga.

Anna Pic is leader of the cross-party parliamentary coalition for tidal energy in France, as well as Member of Parliament for the 4th constituency of Manche.

At the event, French members of parliament and senators from the cross-party coalition had the opportunity to engage with an illustrious panel of stakeholders in the tidal energy sector (industry representatives, institutions, union members, scientists) to discuss the prospects of the industry and the actions needed to promote it.

All participants affirmed that tidal energy has significant potential, as well as benefitting from technology whose maturity is now recognised and that it represents an economic activity driver for local regions.

Anna Pic said: “In a context where decarbonized electricity production must guide our choices to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, all stakeholders at the event are fully convinced of the advantages of tidal energy in contributing to France’s energy transition.

“It is now up to political authorities, particularly the State, to fully seize this opportunity to ensure the means for its development and, ultimately, its competitiveness.”

Jean-Christophe Allo, who represented Inyanga Marine Energy Group at the event, added: “At Inyanga, we are well on our way to demonstrating the commercial viability of tidal energy and its vital importance within the sustainable energy mix. Our broad pioneering experience includes a 20MW tidal energy array planned at Morlais in Wales, operation of the iconic D10 tidal energy turbine in the Fromveur Passage and participation in the SHINES project, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which is promoting tidal and river energy in North-West Europe.
